1. TOYOTA RECALL PEDAL FIX video

    February 4, 2010 by mycarlady

Feb.4,2010– I had the opportunity to watch as Mike, (my certified Toyota technician) showed me how quickly, easily and thoroughly he addresses the fix for the recall on accelerator (gas) pedals on the various Toyota models.  Noting he has not had one car come in exhibiting the problem, customers are flocking to get the pedal altered, and a FREE car wash (which takes longer than the fix!)

In this video Mike describes the pedal or “foot” feel you would experience if you had a suspect accelerator. To date only 16 complaints have been fielded by NHTSA for this recall. No deaths have been reported.

Today Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood backed off his aggressive anti-Toyota stance, declaring Toyota “a good corporate citizen.”

AND… Toyota added $500 BONUS rebates to Corolla, Camry and Tundra, Tundra has 0% for up to 60 mos. What a difference a day makes…

  2. 2005 DODGE CUMMINS DIESEL FAILING

June 30, 2009 by My Carlady

My comment bag over-floweth with requests for help with troubled Cummins diesels, however this one is different.

Shawn has a 2005, not usually on the trouble-watch list. They have replaced the fuel filter and it still mis-behaves…

    Here is the dilemma:

    “I have a 2005 Dodge Cummins.

Several times a day while driving the truck will cut out for several seconds and when you push the accelerator nothing happens. A few seconds later after tapping the accelerator it goes back to running normally. Sometimes it will just shut down altogether. I put the truck in Neutral and crank it back up and we’re off and running again.

On other occasions it will cut out, you can press the accelerator and the engine will rev-up, but it will not gain speed!!!!!

I love the truck, but the Mechanic states that he cant find anything on the computer. It shows that the truck is in great condition.

    Please help!!!!!”

If you have a suggestion that may help. Please post it here!———————————————————————————————————–

  3. Obama’s CAR CZAR’S miss the point.

March 26, 2009 by My Carlady

Obama’s CAR CZARS still don’t get it.

When will Washington listen? ENOUGH ALREADYNO MORE MONEY!  The CAR CZAR’S are making decisions on the future of the US auto industry with no experience working in the car business, owning a company or actually selling anything but their own hype.  Nevertheless, these CAR CZARS (as reported in the Wall Street Journal) say their role is all about brokering a financial deal. These are the same fellows responsible for the masterful execution of the AIG bailout and bonus situation, that in their own words; “will render the AIG name worthless”. CAN Chrysler and GM stock be far behind?

IMHO, their eye is on the wrong ball, and everyone on the bench has told them so. It’s not about when car sales will start to improve. It’s about meeting the needs and expectations of the car buying public. Yes, consumer confidence in the ability to make the monthly payment is issue number one. However, before the consumer can acknowledge the burning desire to rush out and replace that old clunker, terminating lease or inefficient vehicle; several basic tenents must be addressed.

DESIRE, NEED, BUDGET; the basics of Car Sales 101.

After all the barn-storming and chest thumping meetings, even the Italian’s (FIAT) are stunned with the limited grasp our CAR CZAR board appears to have on the underlying motivations of the car buying public. Have any of these guys ever sat in a showroom on a Saturday for eight hours, negotiating a car deal?

Here’s the REAL CAR DEAL Mr. President…

     1.    JOBS #1. Can’t get a car loan without a JOB.

     2.    BANKS. The banks are sitting on all that money from the first round of Bailout financing, FAILING to give it up to the very consumers it was meant to help. No bank or car company should get another dime until a portion of the previous funds are used to give consumers CAR LOANS. There are plenty of car buyers, just no way to finance them.

    3.  GIVE the Car Buyer what he/she wants.  A full-size, family size car

or utility vehicle that runs on natural gas, electric, hydrogen or water, at a reasonable price.  The tax initiatives are already in place. What’s the problem?  The EPA strangles new technology in years of paperwork, and battery manufacturers can’t make up the time warp fast enough to meet the demand or lower the cost.  While gas is cheap, our focus is off the ball, however, all Americans are engaged in the “other shoe dropping” mentality of gas prices coming back to $4.00 a gallon, and they want to get off the oil addiction.

     4.     Car consumers will buy smarter, safer, more fuel efficient automobiles, but their distrust of Detroit’s ability to make quality product has pushed them into the arms of Toyota, Nissan and Honda.  The Big 3 JAPANESE brands are already delivering better quality cars and alternative fuel vehicles.

     5.     BRAND LOYALTY is the cornerstone of car sales, and neither Chrysler nor GM have earned and sustained their customer following. Therefore, maintaining these entities is a grandiose waste of capital. Fiat can’t burnish Chrysler’s reputation, as proven by their previous owner: Daimler Benz.

Mercedes Benz SMART CAR Chrysler rejected.

Mercedes Benz SMART CAR Chrysler rejected.

So gentlemen, I implore you once again; take the advice of those in the business who have “sold” the cars. STOP WASTING valuable time and public empathy. The consumer is growing impatient and you: CAR CZAR board, are wasting Obama stock pussy-footing around the inevitable. Chrysler and GM do not need or deserve to remain separate companies. As most doctors will tell you, the sooner you amputate the better chance the patient has of surviving.  Take the two month bankruptcy route and get the companies back on track for summer selling season. A bankruptcy decision NOW will reap rewards by third quarter. If you continue with the B.S. foot dancing any longer, the car sales window will close as car hungry consumers will wait for 2010 models while shopping for school supplies.

  4. FREE CAR BUYING Advice from MyCarlady!

March 16, 2009 by My Carlady

Las Vegas, NV–  2009_aston20martin_db9_20242849-eGot questions about shopping for a new or used car and don’t know who to ask. My Carlady is an impartial auto expert with 20+ years of auto industry experience.

I know the car shopping/buying process is often described as horrific, confusing, nauseating and tiresome.  Currently there are over three thousand different makes, models and packages to choose from, and that’s just for 2009 new car selections.  Add to the hysteria ten years worth of used cars available from new car dealerships, used car lots, rental agencies, auctions and your neighbor.  Add to this mounting pit in the bottom of your stomach the X factor. I call the X factor the tremendous number of poorly trained, disaffected, limited business skills car sales representatives tasked with helping you find the car of your dreams.  Forget that the average NEW car costs $19,000.00 today.

Now I’ve been both the consumer and sales person in auto dealership’s for most of my car career.  The majority of that time I was the only woman on the show floor. In many cases I was the only certified sales representative, and most recently, the only WBENC-certified (Women Business Enterprise National Council) business owner dedicated to automotive consulting.2009_scion_xd_20238474-e1

So it is with great humility, that I offer my services FREE of  CHARGE, to help you sort through all the choices, rhetoric, web-blogs, and corporate propaganda to answer the questions you want to ask about car buying.   I, Sarah Lee: the MY CARLADY of MY CARLADY, have decided to become the ASK DAVE TAYLOR of the car business. (Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery)  This section of the website I call: ASK MY CARLADY:  You can ask me anything about cars. I’ll offer you advice on car buying, car prices and dealer incentives. Do you want to know about auto loans, second chance financing, 0% interest rates and your credit score? Should you buy a  dealership warranties vs. certified cars? Want to know what’s the difference between used cars and  pre-owned cars? Nothing, they’re the same!  Should you believe manufacturer advertising? Ask MYCARLADY about car insurance, body shop repairs, manufacturers’ suggested service intervals?  Do you know want to know the true difference in cost between hybrid vs. gas engines ?    Did I get a good deal? Should I buy the warranty?  Should I lease or buy this car?  Is the seller is charging too much? What you should do after the sale when a problem occurs? and How do you get an issue resolved between you, the dealer and the factory?  I’m not a lawyer or a mechanic, but give me 24hrs and I’ll get you the answer, even if it’s a tough or complicated question.  Consider me the 911 on a car deal.

Now let’s be honest, I can’t fix everything. This is an ADVICE column. I can give you suggestions, maybe offer an alternative or two, but I’m not going to mislead you into believing I’m the all-knowing Carmack (sorry if I’m dating myself).  I’ll do my best to answer your emails questions as quickly as possible.

You can email your question to askmycarlady@mycarlady.com  or you can Twitter me in 140 characters or less @mycarlady.

sebring8339I’d really love you to follow me on Twitter (@mycarlady) so I can post the answer to your question so everyone gets the benefit of the information, but I WON’T share your name, I promise.  You can also post your question as a comment on this blog and I’ll reply below.

  5. AUTO BODY SHOP REPAIR ALERT

March 10, 2009 by My Carlady

    Las Vegas, NV–ram-rollover1
Having a car accident is painful enough, but when you start the process of negotiating with the insurance company, (the company you’ve been paying premiums to every month since you got your license), those unsettling feelings can get worse.ramrollover2

This truck was involved in an icy road rollover at a moderate speed. The truck is a Dodge Ram POWERWAGON 25004wd.. There wasn’t much left intact on the exterior, but the interior passenger safety cabin did it’s job. A few bumps and bruises, but everyone walked away. Unfortunately, the insurance company wanted to play games with the extent of the damage, parts and loaner car while the truck was down. The owner wanted a second opinion from a shop listed on the insurance company approved list, but not the initial shop they “suggested”he use. The first estimate was slightly less expensive, but did not put into writing that they would use Original MOPAR parts (manufacturer) which disturbed the truck owner. As the truck has low miles and the POWERWAGON style is no longer made, the insurance company “suggested” parts might take longer to get from “the factory”, and the loaner vehicle was only good for a month.

EXCUSE ME,the insurance policy does not state there is a time limit on the loaner car, it says; while the vehicle is under repair. Furthermore, while the policy did give the insurance company the right to “substitute” non-OEM parts when original equipment is not available, that wasn’t the case, as the push to go with the lowest bid hadn’t included a parts check for availability at the time of the estimate. The key here is to READ YOUR AUTO INSURANCE policy carefully, before you have an accident. Other tricks that save the insurance company money, but don’t protect the finish of your car…ramrollover3

MASK ING TAPE instead of proper dismantling. Many shops will masking tape paper over door handles and plastic/metal trim, rather than removing the parts and painting an unobtructed panel. In vehicles with back-up sensors, stray paint can effect the sensors response. Masking takes half the time but you can see the result in lines and edges of paint around these areas. Time costs money, but a bad paint job will lower the value of your truck by half.ramrollover4

Insurance companies try to SCARE clients into going to their “discounted rate” shops by “suggesting” they will get a lifetime warranty on parts. All quality shops give lifetime warranties today. The truth is you can take your damaged vehicle to any and as many body shops as you want until YOU find one that you are comfortable with.

Here’s MY CARLADY’S top TEN Tips for finding a GREAT BODY SHOP that will treat you and your car with respect. (especially women!)

    1. Is the place clean and organized with good lighting and signage outside?

    2. Is the interior office area clean and well organized, with customer bathroom facilities that are clean and well lit? Men and Women separate?

    3. Go in the early morning or late afternoon so you can see the finished work being picked-up. Are the customers happy with the repair?

    4. Ask to see some of the finished work or work under repair? Is the paint area separated from the mechanical area? Are the cars covered or protected from dirt and debris?

    5. Does the shop have an on-site or nearby rental or loaner program affiliated with a national company? DO they offer pick-up and delivery?

    6. Does the shop have an onsite detail area for cleaning the cars after assembly? Is it a hand wash or automated facility? (A fresh paint job should be hand washed in the first 2 weeks.)

    7. Does the shop note your odometer and fuel when writing the estimate? DO they discuss replacing fuel that may be lost during repair? Do they tell you upfront they will test drive your car X# miles after repair to verify everything is good to go?

    8. Is there security on the premises where your car will be stored during repair? Is your car going to be inside the building or out in the yard?

    9. Are the employees in uniforms? Is there smoking or eating in the work area?

    10. Are you comfortable with the manner in which the shop manager addresses your concerns? Does he/she give you specific times and anticipated days for final results? Does the staff follow-up with you regarding the approval process, and sequence for repair?

If you follow these tips your car will come back to you looking as good as this one did.rambeautiful
