1. FORD offers payment protection and 0%

Ford Motor Company announced their own version of Buyer Payment protection today.  Joining the ranks of Hyundai and AutoNation in Florida, the rush to comfort car buyer jitters has reached a new high. Ford, the only US car company NOT TAKING federal bailout cash, is offering up to $700.00 a month to cover your car payment, for up to one year.  The qualifying terms are pretty similar to the others; must have made 3 payments, been involuntarily pink-slipped and any negative difference in the payment are your responsibility to make up.

The Ford Advantage Plan runs through June 1, 2009 and is available on all Ford, Mercury and Lincoln products. 2009_lincoln_mkz_20232711-e1

What is even cooler about Ford’s plan is the additional savings of 0% interest to credit-qualified buyers on select models.  Given the current attitude of car buyers towards the Big 3, Ford may earn the MVP of car companies on sheer business savvy with this over-the-competition offer, newly released Fusion Hybrid, Fiesta and the Ford Tech computer with internet capability demonstrated during a recent edition of ABC’s Extreme Home Makeover.

Add to this consumer-oriented initiative  the antics of Ford’s social media guru, Scott Monty. Monty proctors countless web portals to keep Ford ahead of every other car maker with an army of loyal Twitter followers.  Follow him on TWITTER @scottmonty, for all the latest stuff you need to know or couldn’t care less about FORD, but you can bet Ford will be the first to the finish line on the rough road to recovery.

  2. Leave your golden parachute Mr. Wagoner.

March 29, 2009 by My Carlady

Las Vegas, NV— The Obama ‘kick in the ass’ has finally taken effect as GM boss Rick Wagoner hits the road.  I guess his theory of  “the company would be better off with me running it…” didn’t play well with Washington. His dynasty didn’t play well in Peoria or any city where car buyers were voting their wallet on Toyota, Nissan and Honda.

The Chevy Volt may be a great idea but it’s TEN years behind the Prius, or Insight and now eleven other hybrid vehicles on dealer lots.  What will happen next?  Here’s my suggestion:

    1. Nardelli should take the high road and resign while it looks like the right thing to do, instead of the President’s idea.

    2. Slap GM and Chrysler into the real world with a  2 month packaged Reorganization Bankruptcy and get it over with.

    3. Chop the duplication in the car lines. Ramp up the production R&D on batteries and alternative fuels.

    4.  Fix the union promise. Will the Canadian Auto Workers see the light. Chrysler says there is a $19.00/hr GAP between where they need to be and where they are today.  Considering Chrysler sales are in the toilet, and plants have been idle, I guess the wage discrepency only counts when you are working. Hello CAW, watch the UAW in the weeks ahead.  Work for what they can afford to pay or don’t work at all. It’s simple. Employment or Unemployment, all Americans are looking at the options as we head out the door to make a paycheck. We all have a choice. Work or No Work?

    5. Get the GM and Chrysler Financial car loan banks to start spending their bail-out funds on car loans for consumers that need to buy a car. Any car; new or used.

And finally, no more cash for these car companies until the books balance on the money they’ve already received.

Tell GM and Chrysler executives; “You’ve been cut off from the tax payer’s allowance.”  To Mr. Wagoner and hopefully soon, Mr. Nardelli; “ before you go, leave that golden parachute at the door. ”
