Dodge Diesel 6.7l

Nov. 23, 2008 Las Vegas, NV

Dodge Ram 2500 and 3550 Cummins Diesels 6.7l models are GREAT TRUCKS with a poorly designed Exhaust filtering system designed to meet government required emissions regulations.  That said, spending 50k for a truck not to run as efficiently as previous models, just isn’t right.

Here is the video you have all been waiting to see. Just how easy (or not) it is to use the DPF-r kit/module and straight pipe. Before you jump for joy at the thought of spending a few hours in the garage on a weekend, know this. You need a good set of tools including socket wrenchs in meters and inches, a heavy-duty, high lift, and hammers, grease and a new gasket.  You need to get the truck up high because there has to be clearence for the muffler, pipe and DPF to swing away. BTW, the DPF isn’t lightweight!

I can’t imagine doing this flat on my back, (NO JOKES HERE).

For all the naysayers, back-up and pay attention. This module is programmed to clear all codes, be maintenance free and ELIMINATE the horrendous downtime suffered at the dealership. If you read the comments form posters to this blog it is quite obvious the only fix, is removal.

This kit is labeled a “research” tool. The truck ain’t broke, the DPF is. As my friend Lawrence says,“It’s like breathing through a coffee stirrer.”

So if you are interested in having this done, Jim (the star of the video), at Acclaim (702-938-6310) is located in Las Vegas. He will sell you the kit and install it for you. If you want to order the kit and do it yourself, contact me at sarahlee@mycarlady.com to get a coupon code good for a discount on the price of your purchase. The kit runs around $900.00 which I say will pay for itself in lost time and enhanced satisfaction with your truck’s performance.  I am being politically correct because I can’t say it will get you “x times better fuel economy” or “x times power”. I will tell you that the two trucks we installed this week, a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins 6.7 Megacab 4wd with 22k miles, and a 2007 Ford F350 Powerstroke KING RANCH 4wd shortbox with 35k miles, have reported not one issue.  I will provide you a weekly performance review so keep coming back here for more updates and interviews with the owners.

You can order the kit direct from the folks that make the unit; but if you email me first I’ll get you a break on the price. Sarahlee@mycarlady.com.  This is alot cheaper than trying to sue the manufacturer. Since everyone thinks the Big 3 in Detroit are going to go Bankrupt or canabalize each other, who knows what will happen with a potential lawsuit?

The various Dodge Cummins forums have reported folks complaining about clearing codes. This kit is designed to automatically clear it’s own codes! If you are too quick to jump on thew key during initial insatllation of this module, it will give you an error code. Simply unplug the harness, wait a minute, replug and then SLOWLY circulate the key properly. COUNT to 100! Every few days, give the key a minute in aux. before starting, just like you used to do in the olden days of diesels. The kit is not designed to be used with  aftermarket “performance” racing kits.

Feel free to comment, email or add a rating to my YouTube videos and share them with your other loyal Dodge and Ford Diesel owners suffering from the same issues!

  1. Can you tell me who did your layout? I’ve been looking for one kind of like yours. Thank you.

  2. A few days is not a jump up and down celebration. My check eng. comes on at about 2000 miles then back to dealer. How do you think this set up will do on a DEQ tailpipe emission? It won’t pass. Remember everyone taking off catalactic converters? You can by pass this money machine of yours with just leaving your jake (Jacob) brake on
    always!

  3. I didn’t mean to say you were trying to rip any one off. I’m sorry if it came across that way. One thing to consider is your exhaust turbo charger is warranted for 130k miles, I have already had two new ones put in. Only 7 thousand miles! Regenerate and everything. I miss my 05, 5.9!!!!! 60K MILES AND NEVER HAD A CODE ONE! I have checked with the lemon laws in my state and was told that I would have to have 3 identical problems for them to file a claim; but it has to be 3 identical problems! Isn’t exhaust, exhaust, exhaust problems the same? I have seen nightmares on the web about fighting this problem and making Dodge take it back, they count any mileage over 000000 and subtract so much for each mile, so much for this and that. My last regen, same dealer, cuts out and shifts funny with turbo open. I wish congress would force a recall!

  4. One thing I left out, any tampering with emissons, you probably know, invalidates your whole warranty.

  5. I have done some extensive research and checking. Talked to a few truck modifiers. The Mort Magnesson (Sp?) act forbids cancellation of the warranty UNLESS they can PROVE your modification directly caused a problem. The weight of proof is on THE DEALER/MANUF. to prove it NOT on the owner of the vehicle. Even the DPF/EGR/CAT system can be removed, at least in my state, without any warranty issues. Some states may not register/re-register the vehicle without the proper emission system in place. I know some states still consider diesels exempt from emissions laws. T. Boone Pickens would like to see all diesels changed over to natural gas. I for one would very much like to see that. Burns much cleaner and almost no power loss. A friend had modified his truck to run natural gas. He said there was just an ever so slight loss of power, but not enough to worry about at all! Also, he noted still getting similar fuel mileage. This would fix a ton of emission problems if this would fly.
