July 22, 2008  Sorry for the delay in posting, the satellite connect for the internet is lacking- HUGE.

A few observations about cars and auto life in the Baltic. Cars are smaller; much smaller. Volvo’s and Saabs abound, no wonder. GAS is $11.50 a gallon. YUP, you read that right. It’s $1.93EURO a liter! (double it for USA dollar value) = 4.3 liters to a gallon and you’ve got the idea. Lots of Fits, Yaris and Smart Cars around, and taxi’s come in all flavors from Beemer wagons, Mercedes baby suv’s and Dodge Magnum’s, known here as “300′s”

Did I mention the TAX is 180% on a new car? Makes me want to buy a bike and get in shape. They even have special BIKE only lanes, and the locals make nasty gestures and ring their bike bells if you wander into their bike territory.

Stay tuned and I’ll try to add another post after my visit to the car dealer in Russia, to pick-up a few tokens from my trip.

Adios for now.

Sarah Lee

As a result of the incredibly high cost of fuel, the streets are not busy, and bycicles are everywhere.
