RECALLS on 2007-2008 Chrysler & Dodge

by mycarlady

Okay, here’s the latest on the announcement of the latest recall on 2007-2008 Chrysler Sebring sedans, convertibles and Dodge Avenger models.

According to CHRYSLER it’s “needed to fix wiring connections in tire-pressure monitoring systems that may prevent the sedans from starting or cause them to stall. It covers some [181,000] 2007 and 2008 model-year Sebrings and Avengers,” according to a letter Chrysler sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  This is how the NTHSA worded it;

WHICH CAN CAUSE A VARIETY OF CONDITIONS INCLUDING ENGINE NO-START, DEAD BATTERY, AN INOPERATIVE CRUISE CONTROL OR REMOTE START SYSTEM, AND/OR ENGINE STALLING.

Consequence: ENGINE STALLING COULD CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL SEAL THE WIRES FOR THE TPMS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT APRIL 15, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.
Notes: CHRYSLER RECALL NO. H07. CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION’S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.

Chrysler dealers will remove any corroded connectors and add protective covering.

If you are the ORIGINAL owner of a 2007-2008 Chrysler Sebring or Dodge Avenger, you will probably get a recall notice from Chrysler. DO NOT RUN TO THE DEALERSHIP! Call and make sure they have the parts available and make an appointment. Many times the announcement is in advance of the fix kits being available. If you are the second owner or know someone who bought this car pre-owned, have them call their dealership with the VIN in hand. The service department can look up the vehicle history to determine if the fix is needed.

Second times a charmThis is the second recall on this model. Back in October 2007, 72k were recalled for front door latch cables that could become unseated from the interior release handle housing.. In short, the latch sticks and a passenger could become an unwilling mobile projectile if they don’t have their seatbelt on. DUH!  The fix was a secondary retention feature to both front doors.
