Lots of conversation;
Should you or shouldn’t you remove the DPF and EGR, the entire exhaust system or just the pipe?
Dozens of posters to TurboDieselRegister, Cumminsforums, and DodgeDieselforum have suggested this is the best way to increase mileage, eliminate pesky check engine lights and improve overall exceleration.
The downfall of this idea is; the retrofit kits are EXPENSIVE, the time it takes to do the work is considerable (for a non-technician) and IT VOIDS THE WARRANTY.
Many Cummins 6.7 owners work their trucks off-road and are worried about the intense heat under the truck setting grass fires. At this time there is no DODGE add-a-shield part to protect from this situation.
However the biggest reason most Dodge Cummins 6.7 owners want to remove the DPF is because their trucks are running up the filter to 100% and the soot is setting off the check engine light which creates a series of behaviorial issues including sluggish performance and stalling.
I’ll continue this thread for the next few days, including pictures and suggestions from after-market and non-DODGE advisors.
BTW> Another complaint lodged with the National HIGHWAY TRANSPORTATION SAFETY ADMINISTRATION website noted an erratic brake controller that comes on by itself, rendering the vehicle immediately useless. The dealer is working with the factory on this one, but there does not appear to be a large contingency of owners experiencing this “brake” problem.
Now before you accuse me of hating DODGE, let me say I LOVE all my DODGE products, but I do want you to know the number of problems is insignificant to the total number of vehicles built in a given year, however, if you are the owner of a problem, I respect your frustration.
DID you know the 2008 FORD ESCAPE has complaints on ten different compnents of the car? This is not a new model! So don’t get too hot a Dodge, they are not the only ones with some issues and the imports aren’t much better. Note that the Toyota line-up has had significant obstacles in quality-control the past few years.

I have just bought an 08 Ram 3500 with the 6.7. I saw your thread and was hoping to get some suggestions for suppliers you have experiance with. I am interested in getting the DPF system replaced as well as a performanced modual and intake/exhaust system. I have looked into the Banks 6 gun. What do you think of this product. Here in Alaska, there is a concern that the DPF will not be able to properly clear/cook itself in the winter months. I appreciate any info you may be able to share.
